What is an Event Marketer?

Event Marketing is the process of advertising or selling an event to your chosen audience, through a mix of direct and digital channels, as part of a targeted marketing campaign. 

What is an Event Marketer?

As an Event Marketer, you are responsible for driving delegate or exhibitor attendance at events. Combining online and offline channels, you will manage the marketing campaigns for a portfolio of conferences or events. Strong copywriting, communication and skills are essential, as is the desire to work in a target driven, but very rewarding, environment!

The primary purpose of an Event Marketer is to understand and promote events within a particular industry sector, to a target audience.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

Campaign Management– To understand and analyse marketing briefs from project managers and producers before creating and implementing event marketing plans and associated budgets.

Digital Marketing– To involve maintaining and developing websites, managing internet links and maximising e-newsletters. This aspect may also include social media, SEO and PPC.

Research & Analysis– To involve researching target markets and new marketing channels, analysing competitor events, past campaigns and response rates.

Database Management– Strategically managing list research, selection and database growth whilst analysing its performance and areas for growth/improvement.

Creative Marketing– Devising and managing various design and advertising concepts. This will include editing, writing and proofing copy whilst managing the press office and PR at events.

Project Management– Working as part of a team and across various departments to ensure timely and on budget delivery of events.

How to get into Event Marketing?

Our clients look out for candidates who have been educated to degree level (with a strong academic record) For some of our clients, a business or marketing degree is preferable, although candidates from various degree backgrounds will also be considered

You must be able to prove that you have good analytical, numeracy and IT skills. In addition, strong written communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Prior work experience or an internship (particularly within the field of B2B Marketing and/or digital media) would prove extremely advantageous

Salaries and Progression for Event Marketing

Entry-level marketing executives should expect a starting salary of between £18,000 - £22,000 per annum with a bonus based on a percentage of the conference profit. Typically, this equates to £3,000 - £6,000 per annum.
